Flat Creek Bridge was built in 1938, and lies south of Pageland on the S-29-123.
It is reputedly a 'crybaby' bridge, and this particular story originates from the 1940's when a young woman was rushing home in her car with her infant. She was desperate to see her husband who had returned home from fighting in World War 2, and had not met their child. Sadly, she crashed, both were flung from the car and died. According to tradition, if you stand near the bridge at call out to the crybaby you will hear its cries.
It is not known if any such accident actually occurred at this spot, but the crybaby bridge is a popular motif in American folkllore.
